A Play by William Wycherley
Concept Statement:
First performed in 1675, the play is a product of the tolerant early Restoration period. The piece reflects an aristocratic and anti-Puritan ideology, and was controversial for its sexual explicitness even in its own time.
Taking inspiration from Grotesques a type of extremely licentious and absurd painting, dating back to ancient times. The design concept seeks to actively make visual commentary on the households in which it is displayed. Deceptive in it's design, body imaginary and conclusions can be deduced similar to the commentary the characters are making to one another.
